The power of language
Born and raised in Flanders – and in this cultural gem of Europe also educated in Multilingual Commercial Communication. Several years of work experience at international companies in Ghent and Brussels were followed by a move to Sweden and subsequently to Ticino, Switzerland. Eventually, also a return to Sweden where I completed a bachelor's degree in French-Italian at the University of Uppsala. Study choices, work and life experience have made me a “hybrid” in terms of professional interests and aspirations – I thrive on applying my language skills in several fields, therefore I aim to combine content writing with language services. Retreating to the solitude of my study for content writing and creative portfolio work gives me the satisfaction of independent deep working – supporting companies with interim language services and online language teaching bring stimulating and dynamic human interaction. Language is my thing!
One thing leads to another
The intensive Swedish course, at the time intended to speed up my integration in my new home country, set me on the path to further studies. While my language studies in Belgium focused exclusively on Multilingual Commercial Communication, my studies at Uppsala University provided insight into many other aspects of language, such as Culture and Society, to mention just one.
The decision to extend my knowledge of the French language I largely attribute to my background as a Dutch-speaking Flemish in my French-tinged hometown of Ghent, to living and working in Brussels, and of course, to the fact that French is one of Belgium’s three official languages. The French language is part of my identity.
My Italian studies, on the other hand, I consider being the symbolic completion of an invigorating time in Swiss, Italian-speaking Ticino: living in a dream climate, surrounded by breathtaking nature in a well-organized country and with the lively and passionate Italy just around the corner – what a gorgeous combination! The bachelor's degree in French-Italian also became the perfect completion of “my Uppsala years” and a tribute to my Swedish Alma Mater. There and then I also set my mind to a future in which language and writing would play an essential role – writing about themes close to my heart and connected to the countries close to my heart, combined with putting my multilingual skills at the service of international commercial companies.
Heritage and passion
Born and raised in Flanders also means closeness to the culture, charm and flavors of the neighboring countries: the French chanson and Flemish-Dutch kleinkunst; the flavors of French gastronomy in perfect harmony with the excellent Belgian cuisine; a rich European art heritage and valuable handicrafts – to mention but a few. Moving to other countries brought new cultural experiences and additional bachelor studies more in-depth knowledge and awareness: the perfect equipment for enthralling research and creating attractive and high-quality content. My portfolio categories are largely heritage-inspired and have emerged gradually and spontaneously in line with my passions – now, they are the framework for my theme choices and content writing.
