"Why be seduced by something as small as a front door in another country? Why fall in love with a place because it has trams and people seldom have curtains in their homes? [...] To condemn ourselves for these minute concerns is to ignore how rich in meaning details may be."
"Without culture there is no freedom, no choice. There is no social growth, nor real welfare"
Culture and travel – wellbeing and life enjoyment
To indulge our curiosity about other civilisations and to hunger for culture are presumably part of human nature. Every now and then, leaving behind our daily worries for a different environment, allowing ourselves to be seduced by the diversity of elsewhere – indeed, often disguised in banal but rarely insignificant details – how refreshing isn’t that? The above quotations express the beneficial power of travel and culture – not to be underestimated. Let it bring us well-being, life enjoyment and cultural exchanges!
Culture – travel destination or armchair pleasure
In my Culture & Travel category, the starting point is always a cultural theme. A theme that takes the reader to a new travel destination or brings back memories of a place already visited. Or simply providing a well-deserved cultural break to the stay-at-home or armchair traveler. Maybe we don't always have to travel to widen our horizons and to be happy….certainly not a negligible consideration in times when we are more than ever philosophising about sensible and sustainable travel, about whether or not to travel.
Culture in all its facets
Artistic beauty, cultural traditions – in short, everything that pleases the senses or the mind, is central to this category. The starting point can be a place, a painting, a sculpture or a literary work. Sometimes just a single detail will reveal a travel destination.
France and Italy, and all the good things in life
France and Italy continue to seduce and keep on attracting culture and nature admirers, not to mention all the gastronomy enthusiasts. As far as Italy is concerned, I have become particularly attached to Piedmont – a region that, in addition to the cultural attractiveness of its cities and its diverse nature, also has an extremely rich soil which is promoted at all times with countless gastronomic festivals. But all of Italy, with its twenty regions, each with its own history and character, is an inexhaustible source for all the good things life has to offer: culture, nature and gastronomy. The same applies to France, and I strive to maintain a portfolio with a wide range of destinations and themes.
PS/ Paris and surroundings has become a category on its own, and THE WALK© is also part of my travel portfolio.
(Appealing content on Sweden can be suggested too)
A region, a city or a village – seasons and comfort
My travel reports highlight a region, a city or a village with special sights, seasonal themes, cultural events or gastronomic specialties. On my portfolio trips I travel mainly by public transport – readers will benefit from my various good-to-know tips. Accommodation recommendations or reading tips will offer exceptional travel and reading pleasure.

"I think that I cannot preserve my health and spirits, unless I spend four hours a day at least – and it is commonly more than that – sauntering through the woods and over the hills and fields, absolutely free from all worldly engagements."
The magic formula
Keen walkers for sure will recognise themselves in this quote from Thoreau's Walking and hopefully “walkers-to-be” will get inspired by my walking reportages. After all, who doesn't want to liberate the mind from all worldly engagements every now and then?
Thoreau's magic formula is sauntering through the forests and over the hills – preferably every day.
Sauntering is definitely permitted, steady walking too!
Easy and unpretentious
THE WALK is a unique series born out of my own desire for easy-going, unpretentious travelling with little luggage and lots of walking. It started off with backpack-walking by the Italian lakes with overnight stays in modest rifugios where savoury dishes and geniality largely compensate for exhausted muscles. Meanwhile, I can't imagine a nicer holiday.
Many walking routes can be combined with a rucksack-free day or a short bus or boat trip, just to draw breath or to move on to another route section. Walking through silent and serene nature, and picturesque villages – and why not round off in a romantic, historical setting to celebrate a successful walking journey?
THE WALK offers customized options and I
closely cooperate with qualified tourist offices, guides, rifugios.
A good start is half the battle!
Walking and good food!
Walking requires refuelling every now and then! Refuelling we prefer to do at the primitive but rock-solid rifugio cuisine.
Content within this series definitely gets enhanced with a tasty touch – a savoury recipe of a dish discovered along the way will get the reader in the right walking mood.
Let walking be the magic formula for your readers too!
I am happy to put together a suitable tour.

Wellbeing starts in the kitchen. Both simple and refined ingredients become art in the gastronomic kitchen and pure enjoyment at the table.
From mere matter of survival to true pleasure and wellbeing. Food, sustenance, nourishment,
our daily bread, starter, dessert, delicacy, gourmet, umami … We seldom reflect over the phenomenal evolution of this elementary pillar of our existence, ultimately having become the art of good food and summarised in just one word – gastronomy.
Gastronomy, practiced as much by laymen as by experts, starts well before the final enjoyment at the table – in particular with honest ingredients, whether simple or refined. Honest ingredients result from high-quality agriculture that is also sustainable – all of this an art in itself and a cornerstone of true gastronomy, also of our wellbeing.
Gastronomy and Culture – Cultural Gastronomy
Gastronomy and culture have become inseparable concepts for me, hence the title of this niche category – Cultural Gastronomy – in which the aspect of culture plays a key role. In this content category I aim to approach the many facets of gastronomy in an enriching way: ingredients, preparation methods, regional dishes or gastronomic traditions – also innovation – deserve to be highlighted in depth and with respect for their cultural value. One single gastronomic product can also be the protagonist and main theme of an article, because of its fascinating cultural and gastronomic characteristics. In my gastronomic columns I tastefully mix travel experiences, culture and gastronomy.
In this category obviously no content without delicious recipes!
Authentic flavours from France and Italy
Being surprised away from home with honest, well-prepared dishes and authentic flavours – it is heavenly and inspiring! "Away from home" for me, is usually France or Italy where a versatile culinary offering – thanks to a rich soil, traditions and creativity – continues to amaze and inspire inexhaustibly.
Test cooking – recipe creation – zero waste
Culinary pleasures and discoveries abroad always find their way to my test kitchen, preferably guided by an authentic recipe or valuable hint from the chef – if not, my detective skills and cooking experience will lead me to authentic preparations. Sometimes, recipes get adjusted with more available, similar ingredients, and also new dishes or flavour combinations see the light of day in my kitchen.
I dare to call myself a gourmet, food lover and recipe creator who also makes magic with leftovers
because wasting is tasteless!
With a preference for simple dishes, based on natural, honest products and thorough preparations, my taste senses thrive in Italy's Piedmont – but either way, France has about 13 regions and Italy 22, so there is always a French or Italian answer to the question "what are we eating today?"
Hunger is still the best sauce
Not surprisingly, also the walking tours of my niche category THE WALK lead to ultra-tasty dishes, often from the primitive but rock solid rifugio cuisine. After all, hunger (after the walk) is still the best sauce!
And a culinary last but not least…
My Cultural Gastronomy contains mainly content on the French and Italian cuisine, but also Swedish delicacies flavour this portfolio category!

Paris!
… with the exclamation mark as a symbol for that very first, breathtaking encounter with the City of Light, long time ago – and for all new experiences, now that I have the fortune to be a long-stay guest regularly.
Getting to grips with Paris often feels like an impossible task. In Paris, my pedometer runs at full speed and my internal compass is relentlessly challenged on memorizing directions and connections. Dissecting this overwhelming city, piece by piece, has become fascinating entertainment. Also the less romantic Paris does not escape my observational gaze. As a retreat from the Paris buzz, I can also be found in the silence of the Oval Room at the Richelieu library and occasionally in a quiet corner of some bistro, engrossed in a book or simply enjoying people watching.
Paris & Surroundings also includes day or weekend trips beyond the périphérique or ring road, departing from the numerous Parisian train stations.
Paris! – inexhaustible generator of engaging content or entertaining columns.

"A thing of beauty is a joy for ever. Its loveliness increases, it will never pass into nothingness."
A quote that is an ode to every crafted product and even to that pretty, randomly discovered curiosity at some flea market.
Craftsmanship, quality and tradition
This category emphasises rather on Artisanry than on curiosities by proposing content themes for readers who are passionate about quality and tradition, who highly esteem craftsmanship. User objects, consumer products and traditional manufacturing methods or techniques are the content topics in this category.
Peculiarities and coincidence finds
Curiosities – a "small but brave" category. Peculiarities or accidental finds isn’t something I’m confronted with every day, but sporadic strolls through Parisian vide-greniers (flea-markets) or elsewhere in France or Italy do occasionally provide rare finds with a story. And highlighting curiosities around a theme is wonderfully entertaining.
The silvered pomegranate in the picture is a find from an antiques market in Piedmont and was the perfect fit for a specific reportage in the making then.

I am, therefore I write.
A glimpse into daily events from my home country Sweden or sharing experiences from France or Italy. I move between different cultures and my columns express thoughts on social, cultural phenomena, or everyday joys or concerns. Sometimes a philosophical musing, other times an invigorating anecdote.
I prefer writing with a touch of humor, but inevitably, criticism can be read between the lines too.
My stories are taken from everyday life – an inexhaustible source.
